Our former pastor said about our congregation, “They love Jesus and love each other.” We can’t think of a better endorsement. The fact is, the best thing about our church is that we are a family.

First Lutheran of Conroy was founded by a group of Norwegian immigrants in 1866. Together, they built this church building, and brought their families here to worship God and hear the good news of Jesus Christ. The church was central to their lives, and they were a family. Many of us are descendents of those founding members. And many of us have gravitated here through the years.

We are proud of our history, and of this worship place, which has been built through these 156 years as a church. We recently completed a large addition to our church building- a new and larger sanctuary and expanded fellowship space. There are also plans for development of an outdoor space for worship and fellowship. We look forward to the opportunities the additional space will bring.

Ours is the only ELCA church in Iowa County, and we serve children from several local school systems. We currently offer once a month Sunday School and weekly confirmation classes. The communities we serve are growing and expanding, and we look forward to growing our congregation as well. We have several prospective new families.

We are keeping busy here at First! With the profits from an inherited farm, our congregation created an endowment fund, called the FLAME (First Lutheran All Mission Endowment) Fund. The fund benefits local, regional, and global causes. We are also partners with the Iowa County Food Bank, and the LOVE Network. We enjoy weekly bible study. Not to mention the Potlucks! We love our potlucks…

There are a lot of exciting things happening at First Lutheran Conroy, and while we hold on to our heritage, we welcome God’s new plans for us with open arms, as A Community of Worship and Service: Thanks Be To God!

Open Communion Service Every Sunday

All baptized Christians are welcome to receive our present Lord in Holy Communion. Both wine and grape juice are provided. Please extend your palm to receive the bread. Those who do not commune are invited to come forward for a blessing.

Jesus says, “This is my body, this is my blood, given for you.”

  • During Advent and Lent, we have special midweek services at 7 p.m.

  • During Holy Week and on Christmas Eve we hold special services as well.
